Panelists:

Dr. Ann Galligan discusses the relationship of education, creativity and the 21st century workforce including preparation, school standards, workplace and workforce conditions. Dr. Ann M. Galligan, Co-Director of the Cultural and Arts Policy Research Institute in the Department of Visual Arts at Northeastern University, specializes in artists and their career and professional needs.

Craig Wright returns to discuss the business value of an arts education in mainstream careers. Craig Wright is currently the Director of Human Resources at Textron Fluid & Power, and has held similar positions with PepsiCo., CVS/Pharmacy, ExxonMobile and Allied Signal.

Peter McWalters shares his perspective on arts education in the elementary and secondary schools. Peter McWalters is Rhode Island’s Commissioner of Elementary & Secondary Schools. The commissioner serves in the governor’s cabinet, as well Rhode Island Children’s Cabinet and the Human Resources Investment Council. He is co-chair of the National Task Force on the Arts in Education.

Steve Stone examines how China, and Fortune 500 companies, are now relying on artists and designers to be competitive. Steve Stone is the Director of Business Development at Davis Publications, Inc. Davis has been the leading publisher of art education materials since 1901.

Tyler Denmead discusses how an arts education allows people to envision new possibilities in career choices and community involvement. Tyler Denmead is the Director of New Urban Arts, a nonprofit arts organization whose mission is to build a vital community that empowers young people to develop a creative practice they can sustain throughout their lives.
